*Gorthak the Shardborn*
A frost heritage Goliath.
Barbarian / Warlock
As a young barbarian Gorthak was as much interested in lore as he was conquest, his slightly diminutive (for a Goliath) stature benefiting from his studied and cerebral approach to fighting.
This and his affinity to book learning only infuriated certain members of his tribe even more.
Finally on one ranging into the frozen wastes the others set on him, beat him to what they thought was helplessness and left him to let the frozen wastes do the rest. On their return they told a sad tale of how frost monsters took him, despite their best efforts.
They had not reckoned with the fact that whilst Gorthak’s physical strength may have been less than theirs, his will, determination, and resilience was much, much, stronger.
He crawled his way to the decaying corpse of a white dragon body where he took shelter and sustenance. In his delirium and consumption he experienced a vision where he made a pact with a fathomless entity which embraced the cold. It recognised the indomitability of spirit in Gorthak, and gave him the chance to use that to its full potential.
Gorthak nursed himself and his broken bones slowly back to health using splints made from dragon bone and sinew. He crafted himself a whip from the skeleton of the tail, and practiced with it until he was deadly.
When the time was right he took the name ‘Shardborn’ for he was reborn there amidst the frozen shards of the wastelands, fashioned a shield from a single scale and, naming his items frostbite and frost guard, took them up and set off in search of justice, and if not that, vengeance.
