The Thieves Guild in Vye is perhaps the most unstructured and vague establishment. Its members must be inducted by the Guildmaster, and must under no circumstances cross any of the affiliated organisations. Otherwise, there is effectively no rules or guidelines members are bound by. Instead, the guild is united by shared information, guidance and contracts.
They operate from various hideouts, usually led by a Fence or Supplier. However, most 'contracts' and leads are picked up from the House of Secrets. Here, information is easy to acquire with a simple trade, and there are plenty who have low or even no prices if it helps deal with a problem they're having.
Not every thief is part of the Thieves Guild. The low level criminals are referred to as Crusts, outside of the guild and stealing low value items such as bread to feed themselves.
However, the Thieves guild is highly territorial. An occasional selling of stolen goods to the Fence is fine, and will not attract unwanted attention. However, anything repeated enough to suggest you are a career criminal will garner their attention. It is unlikely for Fences to turn away trades, but they may cap prices and pass on information to the guild.
Career criminals outside of the Guild are referred to as Follies, lacking respect for the Guild and treading on their influence out of ignorance and nonsensical ambition to venture alone. Follies are often sneered upon, or at the very least observed keenly for opportunities to ostracise or recruit them.
