Shortly off the shores of Vye a group of underwater nations reside. Small settlements are found spread across a web of elevated seafloor, surrounded in deeper chasms and whirlpools. Short travel from one underwater island to another is possible, and swimming both vertically and horizontally is a normalised method of transportation.
However, straying too far from these underwater islands is extremely dangerous. The whirlpools around them move often and can quickly drag the unprotected into the depths below. As such, most stick to the seafloor, or slightly above. To reach the surface, settlements have established Jet Lifts that can safely transport individuals and cargo to the surface.
Most of the settlements utilise Logskimmers, enchanted carriages carved from special wood native to the underwater island forests, to move across the seafloor at a pace significantly greater than most could swim. These, alongside the Jet Lifts, have allowed an effective infrastructure to be established across the seafloor that provides the basis for these settlements to thrive in relative cohesion.
Underwater society is made primarily out of natural materials refined through magic into colourful bricks that resist erosion and remain static to their anchored placement. Currents are gently redirected by this construction. In times of past when relations with the land dwelling societies were better, the synthetic materials of the surface world were often traded with these settlements. However, in the last few centuries relations have diminished. The synthetic materials of the surface world are now seen as unpure and unnatural to these societies, and have mostly been discarded since.
The exposure of these materials to the magical construction of the settlements have led to a strange 'mutation' in the chosen disposal site. Many previously non-intelligent sea life have begun to possess traits similar to the intelligent settlements that dumped their waste in their homes. These newly intelligent sea species now live within homes constructed from these synthetic materials. This has become the settlement known as Brave Bottom.
While official relations with the land civilisations have diminished greatly, some still visit nearby surface cities, primarily Vye. This is primarily due to the Kindred Waters laying within sea territory belonging to Vye, giving the cursed city responsibility over them in regards to relations between them and the surface world.
