Founded from the conquest and consolidation of various tribes and settlements by Mereta during the Trailing War, Greater Mereta's borders are a clear path from its parent Kingdom that show the conquest. Despite the settlements history of subjagation, most are fiercly loyal to the Quintors who rule the land on behalf of Mereta's monarchy.
The capital of Greater Mereta is Vye.
The governance of Greater Mereta is unique compared to that of other Kingdoms. Each town and city is governed by its own Quintor, a noble of Mereta. Originally, these were chosen directly by the Monarch, however now they are elected by the inhabitants of the town and city from selected candidates. Quintors can be dismissed by the Monarch at will, and the selected candidates are chosen by them.
Quintors will occassionally be given responsibility for smaller settlements near their city or town. They may rule directly, or they may choose someone from that settlement to rule on their behalf.
Quintors have great power over their subjects, but ultimately answer to the Monarch. They are also not able to raise armies of their own without explicit permission, to ensure rebellion remains unlikely, and are not permitted to wage war except in defense. Regular reports are expected to be delivered to the court of the Monarch, and any decision may be revoked at their discretion.
The Quintor of Vye, as ruler of the capital, is given special privilleges. They are granted the ability to raise their own armies without prior permission, but are expected to dismiss them if ordered to do so. They also may send reports back via proxy, rather than having to deliver them personally like other Quintors must.
