These rules are subject to change.
When your character spends 7 in-game days within Last Lantern, they have enough time for 1 Downtime Activity. All downtime activities, except those where the PCs earn gold, incur a cost of 1 gp/day for living expenses.
Downtime represents what your character does between adventures. This might include crafting an item, helping Last Lantern, researching a rumor, recovering from injury, identifying strange treasure, or working on a personal project.
Most, if not all, downtime activities happen between sessions and should be posted or tracked wherever the server handles downtime.
You may spend 1 Downtime Activity to craft an item or earn some coin while working in Last Lantern.
To craft an item, you must:
No crafting roll is normally required. If you meet the requirements, the item is successfully created at the end of the Downtime Activity.
Crafting a non-magical item costs materials equal to half the item’s normal purchase price.
Example: Crafting a 50 GP Heavy Crossbow costs 25 GP and takes 1 Downtime Activity.
Another proficient character may help with the project, but this does not reduce the number of Downtime Activities required.
You may craft one standard Potion of Healing by spending:
You must have proficiency with and access to an Herbalism Kit.
You may scribe one Spell Scroll by spending 1 Downtime Activity and paying the normal crafting cost for the spell’s level.
You must:
The normal Spell Scroll crafting costs remain unchanged. Only the crafting time has been replaced with 1 Downtime Activity.
Instead of crafting, you may spend 1 Downtime Activity working in Last Lantern.
You earn an amount of gold equal to:
10 GP × your character level
No roll is required.
Examples:
This represents ordinary work such as guarding, repairing equipment, assisting merchants, performing, laboring, or practicing your profession.
One crafted item or one period of work = 1 Downtime Activity.
Tool requirements, proficiency requirements, material costs, and other crafting rules remain unchanged.
You spend 7 days properly resting in Last Lantern. You sleep indoors, eat actual meals, clean your wounds, replace bandages, and stop pretending you are “probably fine.”
When you take this downtime activity, you gain the following benefits:
You spend 7 days helping keep Last Lantern alive.
This might include:
Choose one skill or tool that fits how you are helping, then make an ability check.
Support Roll
10–19: You help successfully. Gain 5 gp, or gain 1 Favor with a local group such as the Lantern Company, Brass Ledger, or another approved faction.
5–9: You help, but nothing special comes of it. Gain 2 gp.
1–4: Something goes wrong. You gain no gold, and the GM may describe a small complication, accident, or delay.
Favor is not a hard currency. It represents goodwill and may help with small requests, better information, or faction trust, at GM discretion.
PCs should track their own favor with different factions on their character sheets.
You spend 7 days digging through records, asking questions, comparing maps, studying old notes, or following loose threads around Last Lantern.
Choose a known rumor, location, creature, faction, ruin, or mystery you want to investigate.
The GM decides what check applies. Common options include:
Research Roll
10–19: You learn one useful piece of information.
5–9: You learn something vague, incomplete, or suspicious.
1–4: You find no useful information, and the GM may give you a false lead, outdated information, or a complication.
Research should give helpful direction, not solve the adventure before it begins.
Good research results might reveal:
You spend 7 days working toward a personal goal that does not fit another downtime activity.
Examples include:
Tell a GM what you want to work on. The GM decides the cost, the number of downtime activities required, and whether a check is needed.
Simple projects may take 1 downtime activity.
Larger projects may require multiple downtime activities, gold, rare materials, help from NPCs, or discoveries made during adventures.
