He doesn't speak much, spends most of his time on the forge whenever he doesn't have to fight.
Many in Underhaven know Grîmdal Ironsmasher as a talented smith before they know him as a warrior. Day after day, he can be found in his forge, shaping steel with patient hands and speaking little beyond what is necessary. Few would guess that the old shield hanging on the wall beside his anvil once stood at the center of countless battles.
In his younger years, Grîmdal was different. He was loud, proud, and always the first to answer a call to arms. He believed evil could be beaten back with enough determination and the strength of a good hammer. But one fateful expedition changed him forever. Grîmdal rarely speaks of what happened, and those who ask are met with silence and a stare that quickly ends the conversation. Whatever he lost there, it took more than companions or possessions. It took a part of himself.
Now fourty years old, Grîmdal has sworn an Oath of Vengeance, not out of anger, but because he refuses to let such darkness ever rise unchecked again. He does not seek glory, riches, or songs sung in his name. He simply wishes for peace: a hot forge, honest work, and the chance to become the finest smith Underhaven has ever seen.
Yet his shield remains within reach, and his warhammer is never far away. For Grîmdal knows better than most that peace is fragile. And when darkness threatens those who cannot defend themselves, the dust will once again be brushed from old steel, and the dwarf who wanted nothing more than a quiet life will answer the call one last time.
