Appearance:
Troy has an intense expression and well-defined, sharp features. His face is framed by tight black curls with a white streak, and his skin is black but with a grayish undertone. He appears to be observing everything around him with his red ruby eyes. Standing 5'9" and weighing around 125 pounds. He dresses comfortably in dark, form-fitting suits with delicate golden accents on the chest and sleeves. His forearms and collarbone bear small, faint scars that can point towards previous conflicts and survival actions.
Public Character Knowledge:
Troy is a sorcerer dhampir that comes across as quiet and observant, often watching others more than speaking. His movements can be viewed as careful and quite controlled, as he tends to avoid drawing any attention to himself, suggesting that he is somebody who is used to staying more in the shadows rather than the light. Those who spend time around him may notice his sharp awareness and the way he seems to assess every situation before acting.
Personality:
Troy is observant and quiet, often watching his surroundings before choosing to act. He carries himself with a natural confidence that can come across as slightly aloof or kind of snobbish, as if he instinctively holds himself to a higher standard. He is driven by curiosity, constantly seeking to understand the world around him and the new souls he happens to meet on his path, at the same time he can be quite sneaky, preferring to move unseen. He keeps his thoughts quite guarded rather than confronting things directly.
Backstory:
Troy Velthorne was born in a quiet, unremarkable town. His father's temper and alcoholism cast long and bitter shadows over his childhood, while his mother was kind and nurturing. In a tense home, his mother's warmth was a rare source of reassurance, but Troy discovered early on that kindness could not protect him from his father's relentless pressure. Even though Troy never wanted to be a sorcerer, his father insisted that he train in the arcane arts as soon as he could hold a book, believing that it would bring respect to the family. His uncle, a wise and patient man, ended up serving as his real mentor. He taught Troy how to use magic as an extension of himself rather than merely as a tool. While the days were a careful balancing act of school, chores, and the relentless expectations of a father who never saw his son for who he truly was, the nights were spent awake, in candlelit rooms studying ancient texts and practicing spells. Troy developed his skills, accuracy, and discipline, but on the inside, he harbored a silent rebellion and an unidentified yearning for freedom. In his early twenties, Troy's life took a rather unexpected turn. During a chance encounter, he was bitten by a dhampir, an act that permanently altered him. His body, senses, and instincts were all altered by the bite, which awakened something dark inside of him. His veins were filled with hunger and power, but he also felt alone. Fear erupted when the villagers realized he had changed. Neighbors muttered about curses and monsters, and friends turned into strangers. Troy had to leave the only house he had ever known after becoming an outsider overnight. He traveled the world for years as a shadow among shadows. He gained the ability to perceive life in ways that his human self was unable to, and to fend off the ravenous appetite that accompanied his new nature. He saw people who were similar to him, infrequent glimpses of like-minded people, but trust was an expensive luxury. Troy developed his skills and became more strong and independent as a result of each encounter, which left him with emotional and physical scars….Then at some point, everything was lost. Troy now finds himself in the Underhaven, with no memory of how he even arrived, or even who he truly is or was. His past, his family, his transformation, his exile had been completely erased from his mind, only fragments remains, his faint impressions of his own magic, an instinctive control over abilities that he had once learned but does not remember….Now in the depths of the Underhaven, Troy is left to piece himself together from absolutely nothing and start a new life.
