Penny can't remember her parents or where she is from, whether because of the influence of mushrooms or otherwise. Her earliest memories are wandering the mushroom forest outside the Haven where soon after she met Saruk. Being the first person she can remember, she clings to him quite literally. They connected as kindred spirits, two lost souls have have since traveled together.

Somewhere in her days just before meeting Saruk and wandering out of the mushroom forest, she found an almiraj and bonded with it both as friends and animal companion. His name is Truffle.

Libby Merrystone became her friend as Saruk and Penny visited often. Libby taught Penny many 'girly' things that Saruk just didn't understand, such as cute dresses. Penny's dress is actually a mushroom, part of her symbiotic relationship. She can grow it and alter its color slightly to make it appear like slightly different clothes, but it is in fact a mushroom.
