Kyran has no memory of his parents or the house that abandoned him. Left to die in the endless caverns of the Underdark as an infant, he survived only through luck, instinct, and an unwillingness to surrender. The darkness became his cradle, his teacher, and eventually his closest companion.
His childhood was spent hiding from creatures far stronger than himself. He learned quickly that every sound echoed through the tunnels, every light drew unwanted attention, and every mistake could be his last. Rather than growing into a warrior, Kyran became a shadow. He watched, waited, and learned the winding passages of the Underdark better than most who called it home.
As the years passed, he fashioned his own bows, arrows, and tools from whatever he could salvage. He hunted cave lizards, giant rats, and fungal fed beasts for food, carefully avoiding battles he knew he could not win. Deep gnome caravans occasionally crossed his path, and while they never truly accepted him, a handful were willing to trade food, supplies, and stories with the quiet young drow who never caused trouble.
Kyran rarely encountered other drow, and when he did, he stayed hidden. The few glimpses he caught of their cities and patrols were enough to convince him that whatever life they offered was not one he wanted. He owed no loyalty to a noble house, worshipped no spider queen, and carried no family name. The Underdark itself was the only home he had ever known.
Years spent navigating the endless darkness sharpened his senses beyond those of most hunters. He learned to disappear into shadows, strike before his prey realized he was there, and vanish again before danger could answer. The tunnels rewarded patience and punished recklessness, and Kyran survived because he never forgot that lesson.
Lately, however, something has changed. Familiar hunting grounds have emptied, creatures have begun abandoning their lairs, and whispers carried by traders speak of cultists moving strange treasures through forgotten passages toward the north. Whatever stirs beneath the earth is disturbing even the oldest paths of the Underdark.
Rather than wait for it to reach him, Kyran chose to follow its trail to the surface.
Now, for the first time in his life, he walks beneath an open sky. The sun is harsh, the wind feels strange against his skin, and nearly everyone he meets sees only a drow. Still, if the darkness below is spreading upward, Kyran intends to discover why. He has spent his entire life surviving monsters. Whatever waits ahead is simply another hunt.
