Ulrich Finch is an average looking man is almost every way, medium height, medium build, un-assuming brown hair and eyes.
Ulrich Finch has spent most of his adult life around the kind of trade that prefers not to be examined too closely.
He presents himself as a logistics clerk, and a problem-solver for caravans, merchants, and private interests operating along dangerous roads and disputed territories. In truth, his work has often placed him in the space between legitimate commerce and organized crime, where cargo changes hands without paperwork, guards are paid to look elsewhere, and the wrong crate going missing can start a blood feud.
Ulrich learned early that the underworld does not run on violence alone. It runs on logistics. Someone must know which gate is unwatched, which official can be bribed, which crew can be trusted, and which story should be told if anyone starts asking questions.
He began as little more than a careful bookkeeper and runner. Over time, his role grew. He learned how to read people, how to open a lock, and how to move through the world without being remembered any more than necessary.
His magical education came in the same practical way. Ulrich was never formally trained in some grand academy. Instead, he learned from "borrowed" notes, damaged spellbooks, and whatever scraps of arcane theory he could acquire. He favoured magic that was useful to his line of work.
Ulrich finds he has a particular gift for anticipating trouble. Whether this is instinct, intellect, or something he picked up in his magical studies, Ulrich has come to trust it.
Now he travels with adventurers because dangerous work is easier when undertaken beside competent people. Ulrich does not claim to be a hero. He claims only to be useful.
