Born under a solar eclipse during the winter solstice; Kaliyah and Karino hatching, a prophecy written in the stars, said to bring light and warmth to the land of Iskralith. That would’ve been the case if not for the citizens of the land being lead astray, deceived into believing the pair to bring great ruin and disaster as they were told the pair would melt and take away all they’ve ever known. Dubbed the “Twins of Disaster”, a pair born from the unity of a red elder dragon (mother) and a human warrior originally sent to slay the dragon. Kaliyah, smaller, agile and much more gentle in her touch, the older of the two by 20 minutes. Karino, bigger, stronger and much more abrasive and in turn protective over those he holds most dear.
The pair are inseparable and grew up side by side, holding each other up, carding for one another and taking care of each other’s strengths and weaknesses. For a time their mother forbid them from leaving the secluded cave/grove they called home, saying it was for their protection. The pair listened at first, wishing not to upset either parent and in turn make them proud, however their curiosity got the better of them. One day, while either parent was gone the two of them snuck out of their home and made their way to a nearby settlement.
At first they were amazed and awestruck by all they saw; the culture, the people and don’t get them started in the food. With societal norms unbeknown to them they knew both about coin and ended up stealing a whole month’s worth of food between the two as they gorged like they’ve never gorged before. The pair seen as the disaster they are were run out of town but not before being nearly captured for who knows what.
It wasn’t long before their father caught wind of what happened and with it he saw they had a bounty put on their heads. He tried to talk with the towns folk, use his name and influence, but he was seen as a traitor; someone who’d sleep with the enemy was not to be trusted. Days then weeks went by without word of their father until one day, a trip by their mother in humanoid form came to witness, their father’s lifeless corpse on display for all to see. The once gentle warmth within her fell to ashes and reborn from them and was that of a raging inferno with fury and spite that knew no bounds. In a single afternoon, all that remained of that settlement was ash and a roar which shook all of Iskralith. Upon returning home the air grew tight and the twins knew darkness had fallen upon their family.
Their mother, angered and filled with resentment lashed out at the pair, banishing them from their home but not before departing them with a gift, a small taste of her power knowing they’ll need it and that she was still their mother.
