Outside of Port Paelios, the isle is dangerous and wild. The ziggurat sees its share of challengers, though none have ever made it far before fleeing.
Bakketra’s Ziggarut. The most foreboding location on the island, this massive ziggurat was the final great work of Queen Bakketra. Decades ago, Phantasmagencia delved into a couple of its layers, coming upon perils of all kinds, then fled for their lives. Current imperial attitudes toward this site align with the Mithralian religion—glory to those who dare to face such dangers and dance with fate!
This location is a megadungeon of many layers, both above ground and below.
Boneyard. Rainfall is mysteriously scarce in this stretch of lowland. Bones of large beasts both terrestrial and marine are everywhere. The Lingerer dwells here, a dreadful entity who desires the bones of powerful creatures (particularly dragons).
Coral Castle. An underwater castle made of coral reef, inhabited by the boisterous marid Yansamir and his retainers (mostly elementals). Many years ago, Phantasmagencia helped him drive off a tribe of sahuagin and establish his demesne.
Fist of the Tall Ones. Atop a prodigious mountain is a primal stronghold. An oni, Kelkajaf the Black-Eyed, is the authority here. He leads a band of ogres, and is an argumentative, controlling, prideful chieftain (his deepest desire is to control the entire island). The giantkin are always hungry.
Forbidden Cave. A decades-old report given by Phantasmagencia says they discovered a sealed elemental gate and a massive construct guardian here.
Port Paelios (population 1,250). A port town established by the Bazagonian Empire, named after a fallen member of Phantasmagencia (the ranger and dungeoneer Paelios). The town is still small, though construction is ongoing and people of all kinds arrive here regularly—workers and servants, soldiers and mercenaries, experts and officials, treasure hunters and adventurers. The priorities of Port Paelios are to serve as a hub and defense point along the ocean route between Hebutown and Bazagon City.
Prefect Marcus Falco is the magistrate and administrative leader, who reports to Master Thalor Mariveni in Bazagon.
Zanzereh. Here lies the overgrown ruins of a small settlement. It was initially established by Queen Bakketra as an outpost to watch for incursions from the northwest, but she and her people perished before it was fully completed.
