Game Master

Planned:1
Games are on Discord and will be played in the theater of the mind while I learn the Roll 20 System.
Style of Play
I run fast-paced adventures with a focus on meaningful Roleplaying, making the world feel alive, and cinematic and dramatic combat. I do prefer smaller, quick fights to large-scale combats with drama, but there will be a variety of types and styles with goals beyond slaughtering your foes. I like creative thinking very much and will often let players do things if it makes sense in-world rather than RAW.
I do like bringing in emotional elements into stories. people crying, laughing, hatred, outbursts, scared, tyrannical, mocking, etc., etc
I like players feeling like heroes. I very much like to follow the rules, but if a character makes a persuasive argument, describes a creative maneuver, or a cool interaction vs speaking in mechanical language (I hit, I miss), I will often reward it. I know the 2014 rules, but the most but I do enjoy 2024 alot and like contested rolls. I also like montages and skill challenges for movement and scenes. It's also good to say I really like players sharing their intentions to set up moments and want to play into them. for instance, tricking an NPC with an illusion. I will often go along with the player to create a cool scene vs my enemy, completely ignoring it.
Creativity, playing in character, and teamwork are to be rewarded. The Rule of Cool > Story > RAW.
STOLE THIS FROM JAMES PROFILE BUT I LIKE IT: This is kind of important. I like to run games. I do not like others to tell me (or others) how to play my game. I will ask for input if I'm curious. Please DO NOT attempt to explain "the rules." There is only one GM in my session. We will have fun and the story both before the rules as written (RAW).
--------------
Character Building:
- I really like character backstory and pulling from them to create meaningful choices and drama, so I encourage characters to create backstories as i often draw inspiration from backstories, spells, selected and character attributes, so people can use either obscure spells or otherwise unused talents, molding the story to characters.
- No PVP. But tension is fun if both players find reasons for their characters to resolve without mechanical combat.
- I'm ok with Evil characters, but if they are evil, that's not a license to be crazy. I would rather it be demonstrated in moments of evilness that "reveal their true nature," not a walking chaos machine.

How We Play:
-
Theater of the mind often rewards creativity rather than exact placement. I do lean into that.
-
I like people using skill checks on their turns, and frequently ask for skill checks, to help inform them what's happening. I will often telegraph big hits or setup turns by bad guys, or a tingling sensation while being scryed on etc etc.
-
At the moment, I do not have Ban's, but I don't like gimmick plays to exploit the system. I also do not like Counterspell.
-
Heroic Inspiration can be used to add or adjust small in-world events in a scene to help your character accomplish something heroic that requires minor creativity or addition to the scene. (Often accompanied by a Skill Roll)
-
I do like giving the players this option when dropping to 0-HP: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CA4YmmAMxig07IkcUEU-UsA1hJw8uo1e0bNp378OgNg/edit?tab=t.0
-
I like Skill Challenged... Chase scene, Hunting the Woods for a Fleeing Elf Assassin, The Rogue, or a Familiar Scouting ahead. Etc
