I have lots of spaced-out experience, spanning from 3E to current. In my career, I have completed 2 campaigns as a GM and 3 as a player. I have created over 50 characters with many more to come. I want to have fun playing and am always looking to give my players an immersive experience, so they are excited to return to my table. I am new to playing over Discord, starting only in 2024. I am always learning more about VTT’s, Discord capabilities, and other online D&D things.
When I am not prepping for my next session, I keep busy still. I play Magic: The Gathering and am an avid outdoor person, who loves spending time hiking, camping, and fishing. I will NEVER complain, tease, or be negative in any way if real life interferes playing! You have a life please live it to the fullest!
GM style;
· I am on your side. I do not take as adversarial position. If there is a discrepancy between us and it cannot immediately be resolved, we can discuss it post session, unless it is a game changer (i.e your character dies).
· I am working towards high-stake/high-reward play. I will discourage a “break the game” mentality.
· There is more than 1 way to solve a situation. I try to design dungeons/encounters in a way that will encourage the imagination.
· Please be aware and mindful of others. We all have feelings. If you are having some about something specific please do not hesitate to speak up and I will do what I can so that everyone is having fun.
· I am generous with rewards, but please to not take advantage.
· I actively homebrew. If you come across an item or monster that does not follow the “template”, it is because I designed it that way. Do not be surprised if you come across a Goblin with an AC of 16 and wielding lv5 spells. Adapt and overcome!
· As players, do not be afraid to support each other both pre & post session. If I see you guys really going for it…that is inspiring 😉
· I try to do character voices but am not good at it. Bear with me and lets just keep it fun.
· Feel free to talk both above table and in-character. Be warned…I might hold your character accountable if you’re not specific.
Gameplay/VTT
Olwbear Rodeo. I use this VTT. If you are unfamiliar with it, don’t worry, so am I. I am still new and always learning just like everyone else. If you have any questions about it, please and. If I do not know the answer, I will always try to find it.
“Homework”.**** Keeping track with your sheet and treasure is up to you, the player. I will try to keep any chat for as long as possible in Discord or other chats, but cannot guarantee anything.
GM Transparency. I will always roll in the open. All monsters and characters will usually have their Hit Points and AC available to be seen. I believe they are visual indicators to help you assess threat level and also speed up combat. I will announce DCs before I ask you to roll.
Theatre of the Mind. There will be times where I will not use VTT for specific reasons. There will be times where I will simply rely on imagination and the theatre to resolve some things.
Safety Tools and Boundaries
Taboo Themes. Animal Cruelty, Graphic Torture, Child Abuse and Violence, Incest, Racism and Hate, Self-Harm, Sexual Assault. These are the things that I will try my best to avoid in game. If I begin to give a description that becomes uncomfortable, do not hesitate to speak up and I will adjust.
Content Warnings. I will flag sensitive topics when and where I can. If you let me know yours, I will do my best to avoid them.
House Rules & Mechanics
Natural 20/1. I try to make them fun but not game breaking. A nat20 skill check is not always an automatic success. There might even be times where you autofail, and it should be ok when necessary for storyline purposes. During combat, a nat 20 “crit” resolves as follows; Add max damage to dice rolls, adding modifies only once. [i.e. if you crit with a longsword (1d8), your damage will = 1d8+8+mod. If you crit with a Firebolt at lv6, your damage will = 2d10+20].
Heroic Inspiration. It may be used multiple times on the same roll. You may give your Heroic Inspiration to another player.
Shoving and Grappling. You can use the 2014 or 2024 rules at any time.
Fleeing. If you announce that you’d like to flee combat, I can create a clear objective for you to attempt to do so. If you successfully flee, you may not return to the current encounter until it has cleared.
Bosses and Minions. Especially strong and especially weak creatures will have additional rules. If you come across something that you deem unfair, do not hesitate to speak up after the session, but it most likely has been homebrewed and created that way.
Clean-up Phase. I’d rather move on from an inconsequential combat that is clearly over than roll the dice until the very last hit point. In such cases, I may announce that initiative is over and players may narrate the final moments, drop the remaining creatures to 1 hp, or have the remaining enemies attempt to flee.
Treasure. Homebrew magic items are often unique and their magic may not function outside of my areas of control. Check with your GM before your session if they’re ok with an item I’ve given you, especially homebrew, that I often give out custom item cards for easier sharing. If they will not allow it, I apologize. Have them reach out to me and I will discuss an alternative with them for the future.
Avg Damage. I am adopting an “average damage” scale in order to speed up combat. You as players are free to roll out your damage if you wish or use this rule. YOU MUST choose before session begins what you are choosing and stick with it for the duration of the session.
Session Reminders
Fast Play. In combat, please expedite your turn. I'll move on if a few moments have passed and no decision has been made. This doesn’t mean I’m skipping or ending your turn! If you need to adjust the last bit of your movement, please do so, only notifying me if there may be something of consequence, such as an attack of opportunity. Quips, above the table strategizing, in-game flavor text, etc. please do so asap or if possible, use the chat channel.
Your Turn, Your Choice. Different strokes for different folks. Not everyone needs to conform to the same playstyle. Keep unsolicited comments, even helpful hints in the text chat. This is a team game; part of that is communication, and the other part is supporting each other’s autonomy.
Treasure Distribution. At the end of each session, you decide who gets what. If there’s conflict, resolve it among yourselves. I will hand out major treasure at the end of session, unless it can be identified / attuned / equipped immediately.
Session Length. I will try to keep all of my sessions a tight 2.5hrs, with 15 of it used for housekeeping. I will try my best to be in chat and available 10 minutes before session. I will give a 10 minute “grace” period to those who have notified me of issues with starting on time OR begin without them until they become available.
Puzzles. I rarely use them, but if I do, they will be for players rather than for your character. You are encouraged to freely participate above-the-table. Hints will be given by spending inspiration.
PVP. I do not like it. I will discourage it however, agency is always at risk, be it the players involved, the players who must sit and witness, or me. If any players truly wish to involve themselves, it needs to be agreed upon by everyone involved and I will NEVER allow a PVP kill.
Session Rewards. I will ALWAYS distribute rewards using the Myriad Legends website for XP, gold, and magic items. That way the important stuff will always be tracked. Mundane items like arrows, rations, potions of healing, etc. will not usually be listed. Please use integrity for such things. Nobody likes a cheater.
