Clifford grew up in a rich merchant family. Due to his parents influence and wealth he was able to pursue his study of magic, having access to some of the best teachers and libraries in the area. Recently however his family has fallen on tough times. To restore their former wealth and influence, he decided to take up adventuring and put his knowledge of the arcane to good use.

He knows his way around a library and how to communicate with fellow scholars, but is a bit nervous and unsure about himself outside his study.
