Background:
Zar'tris was born into a minor noble house in the Underdark, destined for the life of a temple servant in the service of Lolth. Her father, a scout, had encountered Far Realm aberrations, and this taint was passed to Zar'tris at birth. She grew up hearing the constant, incoherent noise of a cosmic entity—an indifferent, ancient presence that saw her as nothing more than a speck of dust in the vastness of existence. She never understood the source of these whispers, only that they were a permanent, maddening part of her reality.
As she grew, her appearance and her detachment from the rigid protocols of the temple raised suspicions among the fanatical Drow clergy. They sensed the unnatural taint within her, a corruption that defied their dark goddess. Zar'tris was eventually imprisoned and subjected to brutal torture, intended to purge the corruption. Instead, the agony accelerated the radiation of the Far Realm energy within her, causing her to uncontrollably mutate the environment around her.
In a desperate moment of opportunity, she managed to escape her captors, fleeing the Underdark entirely. Now, she wanders the surface, a stunning yet profoundly unsettling figure. She carries the visible marks of her ordeal— corrupted veins, otherworldly energy—forever marked by a power she does not control and a patron that does not know she exists.
