Ingvar was born and raised in a clan of Gelmari barbarians. He was a remarkable hunter who could provide food for ten clan members and one day, he could become the chieftain. The turning point of hes life was a hunting accudent, when he was separated from the hunting party by heavy snow. After a while Ingvar found a blood trail annd following it, he found his clanmates counered buy a pack of extremly large woolves. This was the very first time he experienced the berserker rage, he would not remember what happened next, but his companions would sometimes tell horrific stories how Ingvar tore a giant wolf to pieces with his bare hands. Superstitious barbarians would often fear the ones with the bersrker curse or gift, and Ingvar himself was afraid he could hurt his own kin, while enraged, whaen he could not tell a friend from foe.
Jarl Gunnar, who would often buy fur from Gelmari barbarians, invited Ingvar to join his naval raid to the South, introducing Ingvar to the life of traveler, merchant and pirate. Ingvar gladly accepted this opportunity to go as far fromhis tribe as possoble, and soon become skilled sailor and navigator. He found his new life rewarding, puting his hunting instincts to good use durung many raiding expedition against human and monster alike.
Another turning point was the raid to the Bazagonian waters. This expedition was expacially lucrative, where the Notherners looted many small towns and merchant ships, untill the full mtght of the imperial fleet was thrown at them. Raiders fought fearlessly, but they had no chance. Admiral Aurelian, appreciationg the fighting spirit of his enemies and now captives, had offerd the survivers to join the Imperel fleet as marines in exchange of their lives. Heving little choice they accepted and during many campaigns Admiral Aurelian used them as shock infantry, continuing the long imperial tradition of fighting barbarians with barbarians.
Being a skillful navigator Ingvar quickly raised trough the ranks until he was given his own ship to command. Always restless, he could never forget his tribe and the hardships they are must be going through in the harsh North. The fleet stayed in the Bazagon city many times, and Ingvarrgot to know the city life, which was not very much for his liking. Ingver had only one close friond in the city - an actress and sorceress, who had very similar experiences with her magical talent. "Your talent is not a beast to be feared, but a horse to be controlled," - she would often murmur to the young captain.
After the turmoil of civil war, when Admiral Aurelian was one of the contenders for the Imperial throne, but lost a major battle, Ingver decided that he had enough taste of this hot, soft, dusty South and decided to return home, having very little to show fro his travels, except his exotic wepons, military experience and stories of distant lands.
