Things have not gone well in Riverrun(2, 4) since we last left it. The new leadership has greatly lessened the power of the Clerks and all disputes are to be resolved by state-mandated duels to the death, regardless of how miniscule the issue. The Redmark presence in the city has grown significantly, and long-term citizens are fleeing, some to align themselves with the Tidebound, and some eastwards to a more Farhearth-friendly city such as Eastlight Upon the Sea.
Non-Redmark aligned traders are slipping southwards around the once majestic trade city towards the Southern Coast of the Grassy Peninsula, or northwards towards Northland city. Without the lucrative position as a mandatory trade stop, and with many of its best earners leaving for greener pastures, Riverrun's former affluence is fading. There is not enough gold to maintain the standard of living, and bodies that were once rotting in the streets after lost duels tend to not stick around so long anymore.
A plot to assassinate Egg is rumored to be under way within a week, and you suspect Marek Venn is involved. Will you aid the assassins in their quest, effectively installing Venn as ruler? Will you protect Egg and continue the Redmark influence on the city? Will you subvert both in some other way to ensure that the city becomes an extension of Farhearth?
It's entirely up to you how to handle this in this very open-ended adventure.
This adventure has a massive impact on the Redmark and Independence favor for all participants, depending on decisions made.
