Enslaved to train & fight in gladiatorial combat for their society’s cruel pleasure - utterly against Goliath ethos. Often deprived of decent weapons because of his size, he learned to fight better without them (Monk). Fomented a riot; he and the remaining survivors escaped. Hates slavers and all forms of cruelty - vigilant about societies heading in those directions. Joy is a fast wind on the ocean, and cooking a good meal for his friends.
